    Aon Benfield is currently recruiting a graduate level Catastrophe Modeller to join our Global Re Specialty Catastrophe Analytics team in London.  The Catastrophe Modeller would have a specific sector/business focus towards projects for the Marine/Non-Marine Retro and Specialty Composite clients.

    Aon's Catastrophe Modelling team is the best regarded of its kind in Europe. The team sits within Aon Benfield and provides clients (principally insurance companies) with advice on their exposures to all natural perils and manmade Catastrophe events.

    The Catastrophe Management Function within Aon Benfield has undertaken its first significant reorganisation since the merger. Delivering value added catastrophe services to their clients and opening up additional career development for team members, catastrophe management is now part of market-facing broking teams; Global Re Specialty, UK/Ireland, EMEA and Japan.


    About the Role


    As a Catastrophe Modeller some of your key responsibilities will involve:


    Key Accountabilities:

    • Gathering and preparation of cat exposure data for assigned client projects
    • Assess client exposure data quality and make necessary assumptions for modelling; analyse changes in exposure and the associated impact of cat model results
    • Model the probability distributions of the gross/ceded/net results using AIR, EQE, RMS and other vendor cat models in conjunction with Aon Benfield Analytics proprietary software
    • Analyse how the distribution of results and relevant risk measures change as a result of application of various proposed reinsurance alternatives; report on analysis to brokers and clients
    • Respond to client queries and concerns, resolving issues promptly
    • Work collegiately with colleagues across all Global Re Specialty business
    • Responsibility for working in accordance with the Aon UK Limited Risk Management Frame working, and compliance with the Aon UK Limited policies, including participation in the management of risks (including completion of mandatory training) that may adversely affect the business, interests or reputation of any Group Company.

    About you


    As a Catastrophe Modeller your skills and qualifications will ideally include:



    • 2.1 degree or higher in a subject related to Economics and Business, Mathematics, Geography or other Natural Sciences

    Experience, Knowledge & Skills:


    • Interest in developing a strong commercial outlook
    • Ambition to improve/develop strong relationship/client management skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Be able to trouble shoot problems and communicate complex ideas to clients, brokers, and colleagues, as required
    • Ability to prioritise workloads
    • Ability to find creative solutions to new problems
    • Ability to be organized and pay attention to detail
    • Strong computer skills for using Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
    • Ability to maintain compliance with professional standards, where applicable, as well as company-wide quality initiatives
    • Ability to work as part of a team to support clients' needs
    • Ability to handle significant workflow through efficient time management
    • Strong pitching or presentation skills
    • Exposure to GIS Software is desirable e.g.:(MapInfo, ArcGIS)
